Season is on.

Had my first day riding for the season on Thursday, woke up in the morning and saw this from my back yard... good way to get amped up for riding.

Caught up with some crew up the hill and went straight to the good (local knowledge) spots for first laps... never before in New Zealand have i dropped in for first turns to 40cm of fresh wind blown pow! Dam thats a good way to get your fix of a shredders favorite drug......adrenaline.
Was too busy getting my shred on so didn't get any snaps of the lines but here is some proof that i worked for that powder.

Started work on Friday, dam this job is sick.

Clubbies Time

Well its been a long wait but the snow is finally here! There's something really exciting about a mountain being closed because they have too much snow... looks like this whole week is going to roll like that, over 1m at temple, 50cm at hutt and the craigieburn range still getting hammered. Its time to do some turns!

Check this rainfall chart out for Wednesday... love looking at these things its almost as good as watching the snow fall itself.

Snows out there......get some!

Getting ready for (the next) winter....

Its the end of may.... usually this time of year were all sitting round looking at the mountains loaded with snow just waiting for that opening day to get up there on the shred. Little bit different this season as it seems to be coming a bit later but high hopes for our next snow fall and hopefully we can follow suit from the previous northern hemi season with a banger mid-winter/spring.... Im getting pretty amped for whats coming this season, been watching a few old snowboard movies lately taking in some of the amazingly creative lines from the likes of Muller, Jeremy Jones and Xavier De La Rue. Cant wait to start filming with Liam Hall and Riley Bathurst for the episodes of 'The Clubbies' we are doing this season, Already banged out a promo and working on another one right now... check it out and keep updated at Theclubbies.com . Rene's  heading down south soon to catch up with the rest of the crew in Queenstown and get settled in for the season, Starting work in the Remarks park getting it set up to its usual bangin high standard.

Rolled in to Higher Ground today to grab some new gears for the season cheers to the crew at Burton and Anon for hooking it up!! You guys are still killing it even after loosing your offices in the quake, obviously the surf has kept you boys in good spirits over summer.....

Dont worry about the snow... it's coming.
Peace
Mike.

China Styles wrap up 2011

So we left the land of smokey cloud and got back to the land of the long white cloud a couple of days ago.. Pretty stoaked to be back in NZ drinking some freah tap water and getting amoungst some rain/ sunny/windy thunder storms. Will never forget our season just finished as it was one of the best ever! Mad props to the Mellow parks crew for being so welcoming and accomodating for us while we were staying in Miyun.. Also all the good friends we made on our party missions learning new styles of drinking and having a wicked time... (Dice, Titanic) Quality chineese drinking games.

After Nanshan closed we went back up there to film the intro for the movie.. awesome day filled with beers, chineese BBQ and some snowboarding. Few pictures below from that day and some other shots we got along the way...

Be back to china next season for sure but for the mean time im going to be based in Methven and Ray in Queenstown so will be blogging from all over the south island.... look foward to another killer NZ season (love back to back winters!)

Nike 6.0 Five Gates Final....Night Rail Session

So its been a while since the last post we've been moving round a lot as Nanshan ski field is about to close. Last Saturday we had the night rail session which is the final event for the season followed by a pretty awesome house party in a chalet at the resort. The party was something in itself but wont go on about that to much.... As for the rail jam the setup was dope! we had spent all week setting it up with the help from Nike 6.0 had some pretty cool looking features, quite a few people turned up it was actually a lot bigger event that i thought it would be. Had a jam session for about 2 hours then after had some Chinese freestyle battles for about 40mins which was soo sick! couldn't understand what they were saying but still had respect for some good flow.. As for the results from the jam.

Best trick Canon : Rene Ribitton
Best trick Ledge : Michael McCloy
Best trick The Wall : Li Hai
Best trick The Post : Nate
Best trick The Gate : Wang Lei
Best overall : Andrew Wilde

The video is up online but i need to get the hard copy off ollie so for now here are some pics to check out....

Shots

So we've been having quite a few night sessions lately and the crew are always keen to film and shoot aswell.. First session was a wood log we set up in the trees just next to the Nanshan park, such a good night hitting this the speed was perfect wich made it easy to get some different tricks.. Latest sesh was on this jump with a pipe sticking out of it, everyone was pretty tired from a big day on the jumps but still holding it down. Couple of spins and slides going down also Xiao Hu (tiger) getting inverted with some sweet rodeos. Just a peek of some of our shots definately more to come.....

Nike 6.0 Five Gates series ''The Wall''

On saturday was the Nike 6.0 session on the wallride we just set up the other day.. Had such a good day riding with a big crew showing up for it. Good jam went down lots of sweet tricks, few crazy backflip attempts and some good bails as well. Was pretty stoaked to take it out in the end and taking home for a trophy was a massive Nike6.0 battle axe... wicked prize not sure how im supposed to get this thing home tho dont think they like weapons at airports..... Check out the pictures from the day and also the video.
